Did anyone else indulge in YA rom-coms when they were teenagers? They pretty much all had the same plot, but were irresistible nonetheless. Girl meets boy (on a cruise, on vacation, at her parent’s work Christmas party, wherever). Girl falls for boy. Boy does something to screw it up. Girl is heartbroken. Boy redeems himself and they live happily ever. Seriously, I think I read probably 100 books that all had the same plot, but I loved each and every one. They were one of my guilty pleasures as a teenager, and the enjoyment of ‘trashy’ rom-com novels hasn’t gone away as I’ve gotten older. Now, some of my favorites are cheesy Christmas reads.
Now that it’s December, it’s time to bring out the Christmas reads that you’ll finish in an evening while wearing your favorite Christmas pajamas. Set around my favorite month of the year, these novels are all things cozy – snuggly fireplaces in log cabins, conveniently placed mistletoe, Christmas proposals – all the things you cringe at but secretly want for yourself. The best part of it is that these novels are cheap! Seriously, can you think of anything better than cheap, cheesy Christmas reads? I sure can’t!
Below are 9 Christmas reads that you’ll want to indulge in this winter. Many of them are under $5/£5, so stock up! They’ll be the perfect break from the socializing/gift giving/pretending to laugh at bad jokes associated with family Christmases.
Cheesy Christmas Romances to Read this Winter
Because it’s Christmas and you’ve made it this far in the post, here’s a little known fact about myself: I’m pretty sure that I have a future as an author of cheesy rom-coms. And based on these, they might all be focused around Christmas! Seriously, I loved these books growing up, and love the more adult versions now. I used to imagine myself as a character in one of the teenage rom-coms. Stuck at the beach with my parents for a week? I’d spend half the time fantasizing that I’d stumble upon a prince at dinner or fall in love with my surf instructor. And I used to turn some of them into short stories! So if you see a cheesy rom com with my name on it one day, don’t be surprised!
