It’s hard to believe how quickly July went by, and I feel like the end of the month pretty much marks the end of summer. Our English summer weather definitely peaked at the beginning of the month, our major summer events are over, and we’re back to the daily grind with very little to look forward to in the coming months. However, July was such an incredible month that we really can’t complain. Between our wedding and a week in the Maldives, it’s definitely a month we will never, ever forget. Here are five things that stick out in my mind when I think back on the past month:
1 // Our Wedding Photos
I committed to not making this month’s favorites list all about our wedding, but I couldn’t resist including our photos on this list. After all, I’ve spent just about every hour of every day since they came out staring at them, sharing them, and talking about them. Our photographer, Mary Smith Photography, is honestly such a gem, and the photos she took came out better than I ever imagined my wedding photos being. She captured so much emotion in each photo; looking at them honestly takes me back to the exact moment they were taken! I can’t wait to have some printed and hung at home!
2 // Sri Lankan Food
While on our honeymoon in the Maldives, we participated in a private Sri Lankan cooking class. I’ve never been huge on curries or spices, but am a total convert after having an authentic Sri Lankan meal. The cooking class was so much fun and the flavors in our final meal were beyond incredible. Sean and I both enjoyed it so much that we added a Sri Lankan cookbook to the top of our Amazon ‘to be ordered’ list!
3 // Summer Reads
I’m finally out of my reading rut and I can’t stop finishing books. It’s actually getting to be a problem because I’m buying a new book every few days! (Note to self: it’s time to join the library.) In July, I read the entire Crazy Rich Asians series, as well as a few other books from my Summer 2017 Reading List. Now I’m going through a psychological thriller phase and finishing a book what feels like everyday – I honestly cannot put my Kindle down! I’ve drifted a bit from my PopSugar Reading Challenge reading list, but it still feels good to be reading again.
4 // Shortie Pajamas
I’ve always loved pajamas. Considering I work from home, I actually spend much of my time in pajamas; however, I feel much better about that fact when I’m wearing an attractive, matching set. Shorties have become my absolute favorite for summer. From sleeping to lounging around the house, they’re the perfect outfit. They’re adorable, comfy, and easy to put on/take off. The best part? They’re the perfect thing to wear while having your hair or makeup done. Nothing is going to end up out of place when your pajama top has buttons! I purchased shortie pajamas for all of my bridesmaids from Plum Pretty Sugar and they were a huge hit – with both the bridesmaids and our hair and makeup artists!
Next up, I’ve got my eye on this super soft jersey set and this Kate Spade set. Also, this ivory shortie set is perfect for brides to be!

5 // Beer & Whisky Pairings
There’s this thing in the whisky world called a ‘boilermaker’ – a glass of beer paired with a shot of whisky. I’ve never been a huge whisky drinker, but I do enjoy having a dram every once in awhile, so this concept really sparked my attention. We love trying new beers, so surely this would just be a new way to do that! Sean and I attended a beer & whisky pairing at the beginning of the month to try it out and we’re both hooked. It’s really interesting to taste how the flavors blend together and how they’re different depending on whether you have a sip of beer or whisky first. It’s definitely something I recommend trying if you have even the slightest interest in beer/whisky!
I think August is going to be a rather boring month as we recover from all of the excitement of July (emotionally, physically, and financially). We’re excited to settle back into a normal routine and just chill for a bit. And soak up every last drop of summer!
