March New Releases on my TBR

written by Kelly Mongan February 25, 2020

Is it just me, or is each month of 2020 better than the last with regards to new releases? I seriously struggled to narrow this list down! But, I finally settled on six of my favorites (four of which I pre-ordered/have a copy of!) and am confident that you’ll love these upcoming releases.

I advise that everyone just leaves me alone the week of 10 March, though; all three books that I pre-ordered will be delivered on the same day, and I plan to snuggle up with them immediately. Anyway, here are the six March releases that I’m most looking forward to:

The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward

When seventy-year-old Charlotte Perkins submits a sexy essay to the Become a Jetsetter contest, she dreams of reuniting her estranged children: Lee, an almost-famous actress; Cord, a handsome Manhattan venture capitalist who can’t seem to find a bride; and Regan, a harried mother who took it all wrong when Charlotte bought her a Weight Watchers gift certificate for her birthday. Charlotte yearns for the years when her children were young and she was a single mother who meant everything to them.

When she wins the cruise, the family packs all their baggage–literal and figurative–and spends ten days traveling from sun-drenched Athens through glorious Rome to tapas-laden Barcelona on an over-the-top cruise ship, the Splendido Marveloso. As lovers new and old join the adventure, long-buried secrets are revealed, and the Perkins family is forced to confront the defining choices in their lives.

Can four lost adults find the peace they’ve been seeking by reconciling their childhood aches and coming back to each other? In the vein of The Nest and The Vacationers, Ward has created a delicious and intelligent novel about the courage it takes to reveal our true selves, the pleasures and perils of family, and how we navigate the seas of adulthood to cruise–we can only hope–toward joy.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again and again and again: adult family dramas are my favorite. It’s like watching an episode of Grace & Frankie or Brothers & Sisters – they’re so relatable but often so over the top that it puts your own family problems into perspective. Plus, a family forced to spend time together on a cruise ship? Sign me up! I loved the family quarantine in Seven Days of Us and can only imagine this will be equally as entertaining.

The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver

What if you could live your great love story again?

Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They’ve been together for almost a decade, and Lydia thinks their love is indestructible.

But she’s wrong. Because on her 27th birthday, Freddie dies in a tragic accident.

So now it’s just Lydia, and all she wants to do is hide indoors and sob ’til her eyes fall out. But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to live her life well. So, enlisting the help of his best friend and her sister Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world and starts to live – perhaps even to love – again.

Then something unbelievable happens, and Lydia gets another chance at her old life with Freddie. But what if there’s someone in her new life who wants her to stay?

A heart-breaking, uplifting story for fans of PS I Love You and Me Before You, this gorgeously romantic novel will make you laugh, cry and remind you of what a wonderful gift it is to love and to be loved.

I am 100% on the Josie Silver bandwagon after One Day in December, so when I saw this book on NetGalley, I just had to request an early copy! This sounds like a total tear jerker and I love a good tear jerker. Writing fiction about overcoming grief can be a tricky thing but I have no doubt that if someone can do it beautifully, that person is Josie Silver. I am so looking forward to picking this up.

The Numbers Game by Danielle Steele

The Numbers Game is a thoughtful story about three generations of women, by the world’s favorite storyteller, Danielle Steel.

Eileen Jackson is forty. Her marriage is on the rocks, and her self-esteem is at an all-time low. Her children are struggling to come to terms with their parents’ divorce and she knows she has to get her life back on track – fast. The realization of her talent and the opportunity to pursue a long-held ambition gives her the confidence to believe in herself and be the happiest she’s ever been.

Olivia Waters is twenty-seven. Beautiful, clever, successful, she is the woman who Eileen’s husband has fallen in love with. What she swiftly comes to understand is that while an affair is fun, she’s too young to take on the trappings and responsibilities of a father of three children – she has much to do in her life and she’s not prepared to sacrifice ambition just yet.

At ninety-two, Olivia’s grandmother, Gabrielle, is a talented and internationally successful sculptor. She’s enjoying life to the full, she’s experienced the highs and lows of youth and middle age and now she knows what she wants out of life and who she wants to be with.

Life is for living – at any age. It’s about taking opportunities, and knowing when to take them. Because sometimes you have to walk through the storm clouds to discover the sun.

Danielle Steele is one of those authors (like Christina Lauren) that I have seen over and over again but have yet to read. So, if I’m going to dive in, why not start with a new release? This sounds so interesting – a book from the perspective of the wife, the mistress, and the mistress’ grandmother? That’s something I never would’ve thought of!

Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

The first rule of book club:
You don’t talk about book club.

Braden Mack thinks reading romance novels makes him an expert in love, but he’ll soon discover that real life is better than fiction.

Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a sous chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.

Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. This is a job for the Bromance Book Club.

Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assists Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart…even though she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned.

I read the first book in this series, The Bromance Book Club, this month and can confirm I will be pre-ordering all of the books in the series moving forward. This was such a fun story and not your typical rom-com read at all. I can’t wait to see where Lyssa Kay Adams takes the series from here. I really love series like this that focus on different characters each time – they work as standalone reads but also come together as a series.

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Kohan has been in possession of her meticulously crafted answer since she understood the question. On the day that she nails the most important job interview of her career and gets engaged to the perfect man, she’s well on her way to fulfilling her life goals.

That night Dannie falls asleep only to wake up in a different apartment with a different ring on her finger, and in the company of a very different man. The TV is on in the background, and she can just make out the date. It’s the same night – December 15th – but 2025, five years in the future.

It was just a dream, she tells herself when she wakes, but it felt so real… Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.

That is, until four and a half years later, when Dannie turns down a street and there, standing on the corner, is the man from her dream…

In Five Years is a love story, brimming with joy and heartbreak. But it is definitely not the love story you’re expecting.

This kind of feels like a reverse What Alice Forgot but more romance heavy and I am here for it! I’ve been seeing this book everywhere recently and the cover caught my eye (it’s sort of a mix of The Light We Lost and Such a Fun Age, right?), but the description peaked my interested even more. This almost definitely seems like a book that I will read in one sitting, and I can’t wait to do just that!

Release Date:  10 March [Hardcover] | Pre-Order (I did!)

A Good Neighbourhood by Therese Anna Fowler

In Oak Knoll, a tight-knit North Carolina neighbourhood, professor of forestry and ecology Valerie Alston-Holt is raising her bright and talented biracial son. All is well until the Whitmans move in next door – an apparently traditional family with new money, ambition, and a secretly troubled teenage daughter.

With little in common except a property line, these two very different families quickly find themselves at odds over an historic oak tree in Valerie’s yard.

But as they fight, they fail to notice that there is a romance blossoming between their two teenagers. A romance that will challenge the carefully constructed concepts of class and race in this small community. A romance that might cause everything to shatter…

Modern suburbia might just be my favorite setting for a novel. There’s just so much that can be done with family & neighborhood drama and it’s always so intriguing to see what an author focuses on and what the biggest issue in the novel is. A Good Neighbourhood peaked my interest because it’s a phrase that I use over and over again: “I grew up in a good neighbourhood.”; “I want to raise my kids in a good neighbourhood.”; “This is a good neighbourhood to live in, isn’t it?”. It’s a phrase that dictates so many decisions in so many lives. But what is a good neighbourhood? I can’t wait to find out what Fowler has to say!

Release Date: March 10 [Hardcover] | Pre-Order (I did!)
