Now that my son is running around and acting like a proper toddler, I’ve found that I enjoy dressing him so much more than I thought I would. I was 100% of the mindset that ‘boys clothes are boring’ and a bit gutted that I wouldn’t have the chance to dress daughters (and match them!), but my purchases for spring & summer are actually making me so excited for dressing boys. From cool prints to matching sets to retro-feeling colorblock layers, there are so many fun items out there for boys if you look hard enough. Here are some of the items that I’ve purchased (or are in my cart!) for spring toddler boy outfits:
Striped Pants + Graphic Tee
From my beachy girl phase of buying surf t-shirts at PacSun to my discovery of Urban Outfitters and oversized retro band t-shirts there, I have been through many graphic tee phases in my life. I’m more of a white tee tucked into high-waisted jeans gal now, but I’m all for the graphic tees for my toddler. And there’s nothing that pairs better with one than striped trousers.
I love to go affordable on the trousers, which leaves some room for splurging on really cool t-shirts. Brands like Mini Rodini and Claude & Co. are always catching my eye, but there are plenty of good items to be found at H&M, Zara, and Next, too.

Sports Club Trend
This country club meets early 2000s tracksuit trend is popping up everywhere at the moment and I’m a huge fan. The number one item on my list for my toddler is the Mini Rodini Tennis Sweatshirt, which would just look wonderful in the crowds at Wimbledon. However, I’d much rather go to Wimbledon without my toddler at this stage, so we’re going to focus on some more budget-friendly sporty items for him.

Matching Sets
As someone who loves matching sets for myself, it’s no surprise that they have a big presence in my toddler’s wardrobe. It’s such an easy, ready-to-go outfit but the individual pieces also serve as great basics for building other outfits, too. I’ve been buying a lot of matching sets for my toddler from H&M since he was born and they continue to deliver (especially for spring/summer!).

Spring Layers
For some reason, I find jackets to be the most fun thing to buy for babies and toddlers. It’s just so adorable to see them in something so grown up, but in miniature size. Ever since we bought Rhys his first LL Bean pullover (before he was even born!), I have loved finding new jackets and layers for him. I think there was one point when he was about 12 months old, not even walking, and he must have had 8 different jackets – I’m not super proud of that, but I’m also not going to stop any time soon.
We always buy a size or two up in layers in order to get as much use as possible, and try to buy second hand where possible. Some of our favorite items include Patagonia fleeces, Baby Gap lightweight puffer jackets, and this L.L. Bean pullover which we just keep rebuying in the next size.
